4x4 Travel - Le P'tit Reporter

Africa in a  4x4 single-handed!

After two years of travelling with her partner, Olivia is back to discovering Africa aboard her Defender 110, Kibo. This time she will be travelling by herself.

After covering 45,000 km from Morocco to South Africa along the west coast of Africa, this intrepid and courageous young woman with a passion for travel and discovery is driving solo and heading east across the continent to Central Asia.

Through this adventure, she will continue to share all her discoveries, and in particular the cultural side of each country. Thanks to her 4x4 she can travel to the most remote areas and meet incredible people. The adventure will begin in September 2024, for an indefinite period!

PART 2

Let’s meet her.

Olivia is 29 and lives in the south of France, in Montpellier.  She has always had a passion for horses, and it was her desire to immortalise their beauty that led her to take up photography when she was 15. At 18, she set off on her first solo backpacking trip. A month across Ireland! She went on to study journalism and continued her photography and her passion for travelling!

At the end of 2017, she realised her dream, setting off for several months across different countries with a very specific aim: to produce photo and video reports on the world's cultures by giving people a voice. An 8-month solo trip around the world! In September 2021, she set off on a long journey through Africa, from Morocco to South Africa.

The Route

Her vehicle

It's a Land Rover Defender 110 with a 300 tdi engine, bought in Morocco in September 2023. Since then, Olivia has got it approved in France, fitted it out with the help of a professional and prepared it mechanically.

As far as the layout is concerned, she wanted to have an autonomous safe livable space inside as she will be working and living in her vehicle. She’s installed a sofa that converts into a bed, a water system with an interior sink, an electrical system with an EcoFlow battery and solar panels.

Once in South Africa, the vehicle will be fitted with an Alu Cab pop-up roof, which will become its main sleeping area. She wants the vehicle to retain its off-road capabilities while still being a real van inside. From a mechanical point of view, she is preparing it as best as possible by changing several parts beforehand: clutch, belts, braking system, silent blocks, hoses, etc.
